Royal Crown Revue

The Royal Crown Revue has often been credited for starting the Swing Revival movement.  However, their musical style doesn't fit into that standard Swing slot.  They've created a totally unique sound and style that has created a blueprint for an entire generation of musicians and music lovers.  Royal Crown Revue has brought the "reto-style" of music that has exploded from the underground music scene into a recognized cultural phenomenon.

RCR released their first album, Kings of Gangster Pop, in 1991 and began to tirelessly tour America and Europe to introduce this new sound at hundreds of shows.  The group also created a buzz with their love of vintage including razor-sharp double breasted suits, fedoras, hand painted ties from the 1940's, vintage instruments and cars.  In 1993 they began a two-year house gig at a club in Hollywood that would play a pivotal role in their career.  Built by Cecil DeMille in the 1920's, The Derby had undergone a major restoration, and its art deco motif proved to be the perfect setting for the band's stylish looks and high-energy delivery.  Within months RCR was playing to packed houses, creating a huge buzz in Los Angeles and beyond.

Filmmaker Chuck Russell asked the band to re-create their energized stage-show for his film The Mask, starring Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz.  The band's cameo in the 1994 film made their song "Hey Pachuro!" an instant classic.  The group also served as inspiration for the hit movie Swingers, which brought the new music, dance and fashion to larger public attention.
