Kenny Loggins Saturday, May 24 at 9 p.m. Sunday, May 25 at 9 p.m. Kenny Loggins "I'm Alright" was featured in what many call the greatest golf movie ever, Caddyshack (the dancing gopher). His "Danger Zone" propelled the fighter jets in the Tom Cruise movie Top Gun, and "Footloose" from the movie of the same name garnered Loggins the first of two Oscar nominations. The other was for "For the First Time," which was featured in the movie One Fine Day. Still, Loggins may be best known for his timeless partnership with a producer from his ABC Dunhill days, Jim Messina. Loggins and Messina cranked out five gold and two platinum albums between 1970 and 1976 when the duo split. Before they parted company, the accounted for such hits as "Your Momma don't Dance and Your Daddy don't Rock "n Roll," "House at Pooh Corner," "Vehevala," and "Danny's Song." Immediately after going on his own, Loggins created what many of his fans and most critics consider one of his milestone albums, "Celebrate Me Home." That and his next two albums went platinum. In 1980, Loggins teamed with former Doobie Brothers lead vocalist Michael McDonald to co-write, "What a Fool Believes," which won four Grammys, including song of the year. During the 1980s, Loggins wrote for several movies. His "Conviction of the Heart" became an unofficial anthem for the revived environmental movement, and Loggins won another Grammy, this time in 1995 for "Return to Pooh Corner", the year's best children's album. Then, last August, Loggins released, "It's About Time," his first album in six years. The album includes the autobiographical, "Alive ‘n Kickin", which he wrote with country mega-star Clint Black. |
