DERRINGER Saturday, May 10th South Shore Room All original line-up with Rick Derringer, Danny Johnson, Vinny Appice and Kenny Aaronson. Rick Derringer created the band DERRINGER in 1973 but has spent the majority of his life since his early teens creating amazing rock n' roll music. He was just 17 when his band The McCoys released the number one hit "Hang On Sloopy." He went on to merge his talents with Johnny Winter in 1969 and formed the band Johnny Winter And (the "and" referring to The McCoys.) Rick was the only producer of all Gold and Platinum Winter Brothers albums. He was featured on three records in 1971 including John Winter And-Live and Edgar Winter's White Trash. The album And featured the first version of Rick's "Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo" which was also released as a single. Throughout the '70s and '80s Derringer appeared on numerous albums with artists like Alice Cooper, Richie Havens, Todd Rundgren and Steely Dan. In the mid '80s Rick discovered Weird Al Yankovich producing music for Grammy-winner albums and videos. Rick's productions of the Michael Jackson parodies, the number one hit "Eat It" and "Who's Fat" have been Yankovich's most successful recordings. Rick Derringer has never stopped recording and releasing music. Most recently in 2002 he ventured into a new world of Smooth Jazz. with Rick Derringer Free Ride. The second single released from that album "Hot and Cool" stayed in the Radio and Records Top 20 for five months. |
