Every year, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) honors individuals and organizations for their commitment to protecting and enhancing environmental quality in each of 10 EPA regions. Harrah's Entertainment is the only casino company to be awarded the prestigious EPA Environmental Quality Award. According to the EPA, the Environmental Quality Award is "the highest recognition presented to the public by (the EPA)."
The Uptime Institute selected Harrah's Entertainment as one of its 2009 Global Green 100. This distinction celebrates those companies taking a visible and effective leadership position in the “greening” of their enterprise computing. The corporations selected have the largest investment enterprise IT and have taken a highly visible leadership role in mandating dramatic improvements in energy efficiency and green-house gas reduction. Harrah's received this honor for its outstanding commitment to energy efficiency for the betterment of its own business performance and the eco-sustainability of our planet.
The Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program designated The Chariot Run Golf Club at Horseshoe Southern Indiana as a "Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary." To reach certification, a course must maintain a high degree of environmental quality in a number of areas, including environmental planning, wildlife and habitat management, outreach and education, chemical use reduction and safety, water conservation, and water quality management.
The American Gaming Association selected Atlantic City's CodeGreen Awareness campaign as the Best Public Affairs Campaign.
Harrah's Entertainment's Atlantic City region earned HSMAI Adrian Award in the Public Relations category.
PR News honored Harrah's Entertainment's Atlantic City's CodeGreen campaign with an Honorable Mention in the Environmental Stewardship category and includes Harrah's in their current publication, "Going Green: Outstanding Green Business Practices.
